As part of the ILSE - International Life Science Education project, a five-day train-the-trainer workshop was held in Bergamo, Italy, in September 2023. The aim of the event was to develop innovative didactic concepts and strengthen international cooperation in the field of Life Science Engineering (LSE).

Lecturers from partner universities in Finland, Portugal, Italy and Austria exchanged ideas on research and teaching content both on site and online. The Austrian partner institution brought in all four areas of expertise of the LSE degree program - Medical Engineering and Integrated Healthcare, Sports Engineering and Ergonomics, Chemical Engineering and Ecotoxicology, and Cell Technologies and Biomaterials - and thus specifically promoted internal and external networking. The workshop combined interactive formats such as specialist lectures, practical exercises and joint curriculum development.

The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Projects & Interdisciplinarity
  • Medical Devices
  • Cell and Tissue
  • Patient Safety
  • Rehabilitation
  • Biosignals
  • eHealth

Particular attention was paid to the sustainable implementation of the developed methods at the home universities. The first teaching projects were adapted or redesigned following the workshop. In addition, specific points of contact were identified for the exchange of teaching staff and students, which are currently being pursued.
